Course Syllabus:

Course Objective: The language arts portion of the course focuses on improving reading, comprehension and writing ability to, and beyond the level of the state language arts standards. Literary techniques are analyzed as they apply to a wide variety of works in different genres. Writing is done on the reading and personally chosen topics. Tough context vocabulary is discussed as it is encountered in the literature.

Required Texts:

• Literature Anthologies
• Writing/Grammar text
• MCAS Preparation workbooks
• Various handouts

 Materials: Each student should come to class with the following items every day:

• Pen or Pencil
• Notebook
• Folder/ Three Ring Binder

Late Night: I am available on Wednesday  afternoons in room 132, or by appointment.

Make-Up Work: Make-up work is accepted according to the student handbook. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain assignments when he/she is absent from class.

Grading:

• Homework: 15%

• Tests: 20%

• Quizzes: 15%

• Participation: 15%

• Class work: 20%

• Notebook Check: 15%
