Philosophy

In keeping with the philosophy, we offer as objectives:

 

bullet

To systematize the pre-referral process throughout the school system.

bullet

To provide diagnostic procedures for identification and appropriate placement in need of special services as specified by state and federal laws.

bullet

To offer a range of program options in both regular and special education for students at each educational level so students may have an appropriate education in the least restrictive setting.

bullet

To recognize the role of developmental stages on the educational needs of students and provide appropriate program emphases to meet the needs of each stage.

bullet

To develop a method for evaluating the long range effectiveness of the decisions made about program option and teaching style chosen for students.

bullet

To provide training opportunities for regular and special education teachers in the different learning styles and in exploring techniques which can be used to help students reach maximum learning in these different ways.

To be sensitive to the effect the school-wide and system-wide policies may have on the special needs students.

bullet

To provide scheduled time within school buildings for regular and special education teachers to confer and plan for the students they share.

bullet

To offer a wide range of support services to the special needs students and the regular classroom teachers

To be sensitive to each student’s need for success and feelings of competency.

To encourage on-going communication between special educators and parents.

bullet

To offer informational and training opportunities for parents.
