Local History Room
The library has a Local History Room where books, documents, photographs, newspaper
clippings, maps, etc. pertaining to the town's history are stored. These
include annual reports, street lists, high school yearbooks, and archival
materials on people, families, houses, and business and industry. For a list of historical properties and areas in East Longmeadow click here.
To preserve these irreplaceable resources for future generations,
most of the items do not circulate. Members of the East Longmeadow
Historical Commission are available to assist patrons with their research
every Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, or by appointment.
Please call the library's Information Desk (413-525-5400 ext. 1508)
for more information, or to discuss donating appropriate materials.

Our library is proud to participate in a new digital library project. " Digital
Treasures" is a cooperative library digitization pilot
project conceived and designed by the Central/Western Massachusetts
Resource Sharing library automated network (C/W Mars) and the Central
and Western Massachusetts Regional Library Systems. The items selected
for this digitization project will be in the areas of agriculture
and industry. This project is in its initial stage. A sampling
of items from our Local History Room has been selected, with
more to follow in the near future. We hope these images from our
collection whet your appetite to explore the local history of our
town in greater depth.
