To donate property to the Conservation Commission, please be
advised of the following procedure:
- Prepare
a letter to the Board of Selectmen advising them that you desire to donate
a portion of your land to the Conservation Commission.
- Upon
receipt of your letter, the Board of Selectmen in turn will write to the
Conservation Commission asking if this particular property is of interest
to them and if it will be beneficial to the town.
- The
Conservation will determine if the property is such that they do want to
accept it by the following standards:
- That
the property is easily accessible;
- That
it looks like conservation land; and,
- That
the use is significant for the Town.
- After
the Conservation Commission has made their determination and if they find
that the property is desirable, they will let the Selectmen know.
- The
Board of Selectmen will then notify you of the Commission’s decision.
- The
land must then be appraised (for tax purposes) as well a non-sub plan prepared
up by a Registered Land Surveyor.
Parties will then need to appear before the Planning Board for
approval of that non-sub.
After the Town (Conservation
Commission) has accepted the property and is in receipt of the deed
transferring the property over to the Town, taxes will cease. If you need further assistance, please feel free
