E.L.P.S. Physical Education Kindergarten

 

            Motor Skill Development

         

Manipulative - the learner will be able to:

·        Kick a stationary ball from a stationary position.

·        Throw a variety of objects and catch to self before objects hit the ground.

·        Bounce a ball two or more consecutive times at various levels in self-space.

·        Throw a ball and catch it before it bounces twice.

·        Demonstrate an overhand throw.

·        Continuously jump a swinging rope held by others.

·         Volley a light object using various body parts.

 

Nonmanipulative - the learner will be able to:

·        Balance on a variety of body parts in self-space.

·        Without falling, walk forward and sideways the length of a beam.

·        Roll sideways (right or left) without hesitating or stopping.

·        Form round, narrow, wide, and twisted body shapes alone.

 

Loco Motor - the learner will be able to:

·        Travel, using a variety of loco motor skills, in general space without bumping into others.

·        Walk and run using mature motor patterns.

·        Change direction to a beat.

 

Spatial Awareness - the learner will be able to:

·        Demonstrate the ability to work in self-space and general space.

·        Travel, in different ways, in a large group without bumping into others or falling.

·        Travel, in forward and sideways directions, and change direction quickly in response to a signal.

·        Identify straight, curved, and zigzag pathways while traveling in various ways.

·        Make both large and small body shapes while traveling. 

·        Place a variety of body parts into high, medium, and low levels.

 

Relationships - the learner will be able to:

·        Demonstrate basic concepts of over/under, on/off, near/far, in front/behind, along/through.

·         Travel, demonstrating a variety of relationships with objects, (e.g. over, under, behind, alongside,

      through).

 

Effort - the learner will be able to:

·        Demonstrate body movements using time (fast/slow) and force (strong/light).

·        Demonstrate clear contrasts between slow and fast speeds while traveling.

 

            FITNESS

         

Cardio Respiratory Endurance - the learner will be able to:

·        Engage in short periods of physical activity that causes an increased heart rate and heavy breathing.

·        Locate and feel heartbeat in chest only.

·        Understand that movement produces an increased heart rate, heat, and heavy breathing.

 

            Personal and Social Competency

                       

Affective - the learner will be able to:

·        Enjoy participation alone and with others. 

·        Look forward to physical education lessons.

 

Cognitive - the learner will be able to:

·        Recognize that “gym” means physical education.

·        Understand that all physical activity requires a variety of safety measures to insure a quality learning

environment.

·        Identify selected body parts, and movement skills.

·        State safety rules and behaviors for the use of equipment and apparatus.

·        Demonstrate the ability to listen by starting/stopping on a signal.

E.L.P.S. Physical Education ~ Grade 1

 

          Motor Skill Development

           

            Manipulative - the learner will be able to:

·        Kick a stationary ball while moving (approach kick).

·        Throw and catch a variety of objects using a one-hand toss/two-hand catch technique.

·        Bounce a ball two or more consecutive times at various levels using an alternating pattern.

·         Continuously volley a light object to a partner or a small group using various body parts

·         Strike a light object to a partner using overhand/underhand and pattern.

 

Nonmanipulative - the learner will be able to:

·        Demonstrate various shapes, using a variety of body parts individually and with a partner.

·        Jump a self-turned rope.

·        Jump and land in a balanced position. 

·        Balance on a variety body parts with self and with a partner. 

·        In a curled shape, rock backward and forward without hesitating or stopping.

·        Combine nonmanipulative skills with various movement concepts. (e.g., rolling fast, jump/land at

high/low levels)

·        Travel, changing speeds and directions, in response to a drumbeat.

 

Loco Motor - the learner will be able to:

·        Travel using a variety of loco motor skills, to move in various directions in general space.

·        Hop and gallop using mature motor patterns.

 

Spatial Awareness - the learner will be able to:

·        Demonstrate the ability to travel in general space using a variety of pathways (straight, curved, zigzag).

·        Travel in a large group setting without bumping into others or falling.

·        Create several shapes with the body at high, medium, and low levels.

·        Travel and change directions quickly in response to a signal.

 

Relationships - the learner will be able to:

·        Explore basic relationship concepts with partners or groups (mirror/match, meeting/parting, lead/follow).

 

Effort - the learner will be able to:

·        Move at a consistent speed through general space.

·        Move body parts, changing the time and/or force, in response to a variety of rhythms.

 

Fitness

 

            Cardio Respiratory Endurance – the learner will be able to:

·        Engage in short periods of physical activity that causes an increased heart rate and heavy breathing.

·        Locate and feel heartbeat in chest only.

·        Identify activities that cause a faster heartbeat.

·        Associate a slower heartbeat with rest.

·        Explain that being active means moving the body in a variety of activities using a lot of energy -

increased perspiration, breathing, and heart rate.

·         Identify what the word “pulse” means.

 

Muscular Strength and Endurance – the learner will be able to:

·        Recognize that muscles get stronger with regular use. (Hanover Public Schools)

·        Move each joint through a full range of motion.

          Motor Skill Development

         

Manipulative - the learner will be able to:

·        Kick a moving ball.

·        Throw and catch a variety of objects w/partner using underhand technique (one-hand toss/two-hand       catch).

·        Continuously dribble a ball, using hands or feet.

·        Use the inside or instep of the foot to kick a slowly rolling ball into the air or along the ground.

·        Throw a ball hard demonstrating an overhand technique.

·        Catch using properly positioned hands, a gently thrown ball.

·        Dribble a ball, using the hands or feet.

·        Strike a ball repeatedly with a paddle.

·         Strike a ball with a bat from a tee or cone, using a correct grip and side orientation. 

·         Strike light object to a wall using an underhand and over hand pattern.

·         Strike a tossed light object back to a partner using and underhand and overhand pattern.

·         Perform a short volley sequence with a partner using an underhand / overhand pattern.

 

Nonmanipulative - the learner will be able to:

·        Repeatedly jump a self-turned rope.

·        Jump and land using a combination of one and two foot take-offs and landings.

·        Transfer weight from feet to hands momentarily.

·        Combine nonmanipulative skills with various movement concepts.

·        Balance on different body parts.

·        Roll smoothly in a forward direction without stopping or hesitating.

·        Balance, demonstrating momentary stillness, in symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes on a variety of

body parts.

·        Combine various travel patterns in time to the music.

 

Loco Motor - the learner will be able to:

·        Travel in a backward direction and change directions quickly and safely without falling.

·        Skip, hop, gallop, and slide using mature motor patterns.

·        Demonstrate skills of chasing, fleeing, and dodging to avoid or catch others.

·        Continuously move to a beat while clapping.

·        Travel, changing speeds and directions, in response to a variety of rhythms.

 

Spatial Awareness - the learner will be able to:

·        Combine shapes, levels, and pathways into simple sequences.

 

Relationships - the learner will be able to:

          MOTOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT

           

            Manipulative - the learner will be able to:

·        Kick a stationary ball into the air.

·        Kick a stationary ball to a target.

·        Dribble a ball five or more times (with hands or feet).

·        Throw to a target using an overhand technique.

·        Catch a variety of objects thrown from a partner.

·        Strike a variety of objects with a paddle up or down continuously.

·         Strike a ball with a bat from a tee or cone, using a correct grip and side orientation. 

·         Volley lightweight objects in the air with a body part.

 

          Nonmanipulative - the learner will be able to:

·        Travel and stop in balanced positions.

·        Dodge using skills of turning, twisting, and bending to avoid moving obstacle/persons.

·        Balance with partner(s) as a base of support.

·        Perform a variety of rolls (e.g., forward, backward, shoulder).

 

            Loco Motor - the learner will be able to:

·        Use loco motor skills to perform a variety of tasks.

·         Travel in front/behind, along/through, under/over, on/off a variety of obstacles.

·         Combine loco motor skills in a sequence to a beat.

 

            Spatial Awareness - the learner will be able to:

·        Travel using different directions, levels, pathways, and locations.

 

Relationships - the learner will be able to:

·        Define static and dynamic, as it applies to stretching, in simple terms.

·        Hand dribble using dominant and non-dominant hands maintaining control while traveling through       general space.

·         Foot dribble a ball alternating feet and maintain control while traveling through general space.

·        Volley lightweight objects cooperatively with a partner

 

Nonmanipulative - the learner will be able to:

·        Transfer weight from hands to feet momentarily.

·        Using skills of turning, twisting, bending, jumping, and landing to dodge objects and/or people.

·        Balance with partner(s) while moving.

·        Perform a variety of movements applying movement concepts in a rhythmic sequence.

 

Loco Motor - the learner will be able to:

·        Leap, leading with either foot.

 

Spatial awareness - the learner will be able to:

            Through the study of Motor Skill Development students will:

            2.1    Apply movement concepts including direction, balance, level (high, low), pathway (straight, curve, zigzag),             range (expansive, narrow), and force absorption (rigid, with bent knees) to extend versatility and improve             physical performance.

 

            2.2    Use a variety of manipulative (throwing, catching, striking), loco motor (walking, running, skipping,   hopping, galloping, sliding, jumping, leaping), and non-loco motor (twisting, balancing, extending) skills as      individuals and in teams.

 

            2.3    Perform rhythm routines, including dancing, to demonstrate fundamental movement skills.

 

            Through the study of Fitness students will:

            2.4    Identify physical and psychological changes that result from participation in a variety of physical activities.

 

            2.5    Explain the benefits of physical fitness to good health and increased active lifestyle.

 

            2.6    Identify the major behaviors that contribute to wellness (exercise, nutrition, hygiene, rest, and recreation,             refraining from using tobacco, alcohol, and other substances).

·         Throw a variety of objects demonstrating both accuracy and distance (e.g., Frisbees, softballs, footballs).

·        Consistently strike an object, using an implement, so that it travels in an intended direction and height.

·        Hand dribble and foot dribble while preventing an opponent from stealing the ball. 

·        Consistently throw and catch a ball while guarded by opponents.

·        Demonstrate receiving and projecting objects with and without an implement while stationary and       moving.

       Use a variety of manipulative skills in small game situations.

 

Non-manipulative - the learner will be able to:

·        Design and perform dance sequences that combine traveling, rolling, balancing, and weight transfer into smooth, flowing sequences with intentional changes in direction, speed, and flow.

·        Demonstrate body control while performing movement activities, dances, games, and sports.

·        Demonstrate static and dynamic balancing skills in dance sequences.

 

            Fitness

·        Attempt player-to-player defense in a variety of lead-up activities/small-sided games. 

·        Participate in activities that enhance awareness of spatial relationships between and among the ball, the goal, the opponent, and her/himself (third party perspective e.g., 2V1, 3V2)

·        Hand and foot dribble in offensive situations while participating in lead-up activities/small group games.

·        Demonstrate an underhand serve over a net in a variety of volleying activities.

·        Consistently strike an object, using an implement, so that it travels in an intended direction and height.

       Use a variety of manipulative skills in small game situations.

 

Nonmanipulative - the learner will be able to:

·        Design and perform dance sequences that combine traveling, rolling, balancing, and weight transfer into smooth, flowing sequences with    intentional changes in direction, speed, and flow.

 

·        Demonstrate body control while performing movement activities, dances, games, and sports.
