EAST LONGMEADOW PUBLIC SCHOOLS
AND
LOWER PIONEER VALLEY EDUCATIONAL COLLABORATIVE
PARTNERSHIP
The Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative (LPVEC) is a group of seven school districts legally bound in a collaborative structure under the provisions of Chapter 40, Section 4E, and Chapter 797 of the General Laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The member school districts include:
Agawam, East Longmeadow, Hampden-Wilbraham Regional, Ludlow, Southwick-Tolland Regional, and West Sprinqfield. The Board of Governors, consisting of a representative from each of the 7 member districts, is the governing body of the Collaborative.
The primary purpose of the LPVEC is to expand the quality of education in the member school districts. Basic to the Collaborative's efforts is the premise that there are many educational services that can be provided more effectively and efficiently by pooling the resources and students of several school districts. Since March of 1975, the Collaborative has been able to substantially broaden the quantity and quality of programs and services available to students within the participating school districts. The Collaborative offers programs in general areas - Special Education, Occupational Education, and Supplemental Services (including Special Needs Transportation and Staff/professional Development).
The Collaborative currently offers nine Occupational Program enrolling approximately 200 secondary school students. Many of these programs are supported by the Division of Occupational Education, Massachusetts Department of Education under P.L. 94-482 (Vocational Education). The purpose of these Collaborative projects is, therefore, to broaden the base of Occupational Programs and services available to the secondary high school students of the Collaborative service area.
LPVEC's Special Education Program offer services to students aged 3 to 22 years who demonstrate a wide variety of special needs. Students are referred to the Collaborative for service when they present needs that are more severe than what can effectively be met within their local school Systems. Presently there are approximately 240 students in 29 Collaborative Special Education classrooms. The Twain Alternative High School is located in a separate building; all other programs are appropriately located within the public schools of the member school districts.
The Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative works in conjunction with its member districts in order to continue to meet the needs of their students.
