Safe Schools Community Taskforce
September 98 February 99
Process Review
In Phase I: * We utilized the synergy of our committee and brainstormed /addressed
5 Security areas : Incidents, Dangers, Perpetrators, Time Periods &
Locations.
* The PTO Council addressed 5 Climate areas: Low parent
involvement, Lack of student/faculty identification w/school, limited visibility with the principal, Truancy Rates, & Cleanliness of buildings.
In Phase II * We reviewed /constructed a community student & staff Safe Schools
Survey
and asked schools to administer the survey (tabulations are
forthcoming).
* Principals and staffs are also completing the Crisis Plan
protocol packet so that crisis plans are on file at each school.
* The Police Dept. was asked to fill out the Law Enforcement
Questionnaire (tabulations are forthcoming).
* The Fire Dept. was asked to review fire drills procedures.
In Phase III * We evaluated and gave options regarding current security and secure
facility measures by responding to the Policy /Program Review (PPR) indexes and the Physical Security Review (PSR) indexes. This showed us how secure we were in areas, and what areas we needed help in.
Phase IV * We will compare data from the indexes and the surveys to the original
synergy list by the committee and look for congruence.
* The Committee will then employ weighted voting & Rank Order to
adopt those options it wishes to address in our Safe Schools Plan.
Phase V * All resulting data from surveys will be compared with final list of safe
school objectives for congruence.
* Any errors and/or ommisions will be added to the final list compiled by
the committee.
* The committee will brainstorm using the Options Worksheets to
develop plans of implementation recommendations.
