LIBRARY

We have a great library at Mountain View School. In addition to almost 8,000 books and magazines our library is equipped with four student computers that allow the students to search for books of interest and research topics using a special OPAC program. Books are checked out for two weeks at a time with unlimited renewals. There are no fines for overdue books however fees are charged for lost or damaged books.
We are constantly updating our library collection with the help of our PTO sponsored fundraisers and the generous donations of our school families.
Our Celebration Book Club celebrates events in our students’ lives in a special way and helps our library collection to continue to grow. Participation in this program involves a $10 donation per book. Each donation enables children to select a new book from the Celebration Bookshelf located in our library. Most children's hard cover books actually cost between $15 and $18 but through the Junior Library Guild we are able to purchase current selections for a reduced rate.
Each time a student or parent wishes to celebrate a special event and makes their choice, a special bookplate inscribed with their name will be added to the inside front cover of the chosen book. Each student will have the honor of being the first to check out the new book for an extended period of time.
Children have a special appreciation for the books they select to add to our library shelves. They will love sharing them with their classmates and teacher. These books will remain at Mountain View for future students to enjoy. This is a wonderful way to commemorate a very special occasion and to help our library maintain a quality collection. Over forty books were chosen last year to honor students and teachers.
Children may join at anytime during the year. In addition to this program there will be other opportunities to donate to the library throughout the year. Please let Mrs. Galaska know if you would like a form sent home with your child.
Students are also able to check on the availability of books at any public library by accessing C/W Mars from their school or home computer. A direct link may be found by visiting www.eastlongmeadowma.gov and selecting library. The World Book Online Reference Center and several newspapers are accessible through that site also. A library card is necessary to use the online reference center.
