EAST LONGMEADOW WILL NO LONGER PARTICIPATE IN TELEVISION AND MONITOR COLLECTION PROGRAM

(East Longmeadow, MA) Due to the fact that much of the grant money for such programs has been eliminated, the East Longmeadow Board of Health has decided to terminate its computer monitor/television collection program.

“Simply put, the Board of Health has had to make tough decisions on services like this collection program,” said Gary DeLisle, Chairman of the East Longmeadow Board of Health.  “The Board made a determination that the Town could no longer pay for the disposal of these items nor the administrative costs to implement this program and therefore it was deemed to be expendable in these tough fiscal times.”

Televisions and computer monitors are deemed to be hazardous waste and cannot be disposed off in regular or bulk trash pickups.  The Town has previously received grant money that the Board of Health had used to cover the costs associated with this collection program but state cutbacks have led to the elimination of those grants.

However, options are still available to those residents who wish to dispose of old televisions and computer monitors.  “Any resident who wishes to dispose of these items can still bring these items to Goodwill Industries on Dorset Street in Springfield and they will be happy to accept these items for a fee,” said Chairman DeLisle.
