EAST LONGMEADOW RECEIVES TRASH STUDY GRANT

 

The Town of East Longmeadow is proud to announce that the Town has been awarded a Municipal Recycling Technical Assistance Grant from the Department of Environmental Protection to study the ‘pay-as-you-throw’ trash issue. 

 

“The Board of Health has always been committed to its recycling program and to do everything possible to keep our trash costs as low as we can,” said John M. Claffey, Chairman of the Board of Health.  “While the Board of Health has yet to endorse the idea of pay-as-you-throw for East Longmeadow, our Solid Waste Advisory Team has recommended it to the Town and this grant will allow Town officials to study the issue with experts from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”

 

The study will be coordinated by the Department of Environmental Protection in cooperation with the SWAT committee and the Board of Health and is expected to begin before Thanksgiving.
