The Board of Selectmen has received correspondence from Rep. Gale Candaras that the bill requesting the East Longmeadow Police Chief’s position be removed from the provisions of civil service has been enacted by the Legislature and was signed into law by the Governor on January 26, 2004.
The Bill, S2163 “An Act Exempting the Position of Chief of Police in the Town of East Longmeadow from the Civil Service Law” was requested by the Town as a result of a vote of a Special Town Meeting on September 15, 2003.
“The Town appreciates the work of our legislative delegation in pushing this through the legislative process on our behalf,” said Kimberly Wiezbicki, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen. “We would like to extend our thanks to Senator Brian Lees, Rep. Mary Rogeness, Rep. Gale Candaras, and Governor Mitt Romney in their diligence. Having this notification in hand, the Board of Selectmen looks forward to beginning the search process once again in earnest.”
