EAST LONGMEADOW ANNOUNCES SELECTION OF POLICE SERGEANT

 

(East Longmeadow, MA) The East Longmeadow Board of Selectmen unanimously voted last week to offer the position of Police Sergeant to Patrolman Richard C. Bates effective November 30, 2003.     

 

“The Selectmen were extremely pleased with the caliber of the candidates for Sergeant,” said Kimberly Wiezbicki, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen.  “While the decision was very difficult, we are very happy to have Officer Bates’ serving in this role for the town.”

 

Officer Bates has served as an officer with the East Longmeadow Police Department since 1980 and presently serves as the Safety Officer, D.A.R.E Officer, Rape Investigator, E911 Liaison, and Civilian Emergency Response Team Liaison.  He is a veteran of the United States Navy and is born and raised in East Longmeadow. 

 

In addition, Officer Bates has a Bachelor Degree from the University of Massachusetts and a Master Degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College. 

 

There will be a badge ceremony on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at the Police Department at 8:00 a.m.
