EAST LONGMEADOW RECEIVES ANOTHER MUNICIPAL RECYCLING GRANT

The Town of East Longmeadow is proud to announce that the Town has been awarded a Municipal Recycling Grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.   As a result of the grant, the Town will be receiving 500 curbside recycling bin stickers and 30 home composting bins for the start of a new home composting program within the Town.

“The Board of Health is very pleased to receive this grant award,” said John M. Claffey, Chairman of the Board of Health.  “This grant will go a long way in keeping our recycling program successful and to bring a brand new program into the Town.”

"The Board of Health submitted the grant in order to aid the Town in dealing with the lack of recycling bins in the Town,” said Claffey.  "Rather than spending town resources on new recycling bins, the Town will provide these recycling stickers to residents to affix to recycling containers of their choosing.”  The Board of Health will distribute these recycling stickers through their office in Town Hall.

In addition, the Town will be starting a new home composting program.   The Town will be providing composting bins to Town residents for a nominal price of $20.  Any resident interested in obtaining a composting bin through this program should contact Leon Gaumond Jr., at 413-525-5400x420.

“The Board of Health is committed to improving our recycling program,” said Selectman Claffey.  “Any suggestions that citizens would like to make can be addressed to the Board of Health at 525-5400x420.  Remember that we are always looking for volunteers who would like to assist the town in our recycling efforts.”
