INTERVIEW, POLICE
OFFICER:
8:30 a.m. Jeffrey Niznik
The BOS and Chief Mellis met with Jeffry Niznik for the purposes of interviewing him for the position of police officer. Seven questions were asked. Each question was the same question, asked by the same interviewer, and in the same order as it was when the other three candidates were subsequently interviewed on May 9, 2006.
The questions, and their interviewers, were as follows:
1. Why do you want to become an East Longmeadow Police Officer? (J. Driscoll)
2. Describe a stressful situation you have had with a member of the public or in a public setting and how you resolved it? (G. DeLisle)
3. What would you do if you witnessed a robbery in progress? (J. Townshend)
4. (Chief Mellis) You’re off duty. At a local restaurant the owner recognizes you as a police officer that patrols the neighborhood. The owner says, “Good job. Keep my restaurant safe, OK?” and then writes “No charge” on you bill. What will you do, if anything?
5. What is your philosophy regarding law enforcement? (J. Driscoll)
6. What actions would you take as a police officer to insure good relations with the citizens in the area that you patrol? (G. DeLisle)
7. Under what circumstances is deadly force justified? (J. Townshend)
J. Niznik was then invited to offer any additional comments or questions.
