PUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS

The Board of Selectmen met with the Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC) during its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 24, 2006.  The PSAC presented preliminary recommendations based on its survey sent to Town residents last spring.

Recommendations presented to the Selectmen included an interest in increasing fire department coverage to twenty-four hour service; development of Town operated ambulance service; and the implementation of the five year plan proposed by the Police Chief for the department.

Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, James D. Driscoll, said, “The tremendous amount of work done by the Public Safety Advisory Committee members to date is remarkable.  The survey results indicate that there is interest in enhancing public safety services.  Many surrounding communities run municipal ambulance service, and this concept is of particular interest to the Board.  This is an opportunity for East Longmeadow to provide hometown care to our residents, and create a revenue stream for the Town.  The Public Safety Advisory Committee will now focus its efforts on providing a cost-benefit analysis of implementing this service.”
