SIDEWALK SHOVELING NOTICE

All property owners are reminded of the importance of removing snow from their sidewalks.  According to Town By-laws, property owners are advised to remove snow from their sidewalks within 24 hours after the snow ceases to fall.  Should the sidewalks become covered with ice that cannot be readily moved, property owners are required to place sand, salt or other materials on them.  This is vital to allow safe passage for pedestrians. In addition, the dumping or disposing of snow in East Longmeadow from outside of the Town is prohibited.

In addition to the sidewalks, residents are reminded that if they have a hydrant on their front lawn, or in their immediate area, to make sure it is also cleared of snow and ice.  Fire Chief Wallace said, “The hydrant is for the protection of the entire neighborhood. The few minutes it takes you to clear away the snow are precious minutes saved during a real emergency.”
