2003
Annual Report
The East
Longmeadow network consists of a Microsoft NT enterprise servicing
all Town and School buildings. It remains one of the largest and most advanced
enterprise networks in Massachusetts
for a municipality of its size. All desktop clients share full T-1 Internet
access, Exchange e-mail and direct access to appropriate functional services.
During
2003, the East Longmeadow computer system
attained a size of 24 servers and approximately 1200 clients. Software packages
to run accounting, assessor, payroll, police/fire, school, tax and utility
billing were maintained and upgraded. All of the servers and the clients,
except for the school labs, have been upgraded to the Windows 2000 operating
system. Our email system has been upgraded to Windows 2000. Key servers and
clients have been upgraded to more powerful hardware to reflect their mission
critical role. The COA lab has been rebuilt with 10 workstations now available
for our seniors’ use.
Other
highlights for the year 2003 include continuing detailed systems documentation,
implementing policies and procedures, and development of security and data
storage plans. Another major goal has been to continue to incorporate use of
the Internet into each department, board and commission of the Town so that the
Town’s Internet presence reflects the wide variety of services provided.
Respectfully submitted,
