THE EAST LONGMEADOW CULTURAL AFFAIRS

                 COUNCIL – 2003 REPORT


The East Longmeadow Cultural Affairs Council is an organization composed of Town residents appointed by the Board of Selectmen.  The Council is responsible for distributing Lottery funds allocated by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.  These Funds are used to support programs in the Arts, Humanities and Interpretive Sciences.  Grants from the State are based upon population and equalized property values.


In 2003, East Longmeadow was awarded a total of $2,350.00 for fiscal 2004 grants.  The Town received a total of 22 applications, with a fiscal request of $13,625.00.


The Council reviewed at great length the applications, and made the following awards, taking into consideration what would benefit the greatest amount of residents, and tried to consider all age groups:


East Longmeadow Rotary Club for Summer Concert Series


East Longmeadow  Public Library


East Longmeadow Parade Committee


Friends of Heritage Park


John J. Michaels


John and Ann Murphy


Charles Simonich


George David


Eunice Forbes, Chairman, retired, and Chris Sanderell and Marilyn Ghedini were appointed Co-Chairs.  One new member, Gerry Marafioti, was appointed to the Council, and new members are still being sought.


The Council is also responsible for the maintenance and use of the Little Red Schoolhouse at Center Hill Park, and encourages local organizations to hold meetings at the Schoolhouse.


The Council wishes to thank the town residents for their continued support.
