Mt. View School
Mt. View School educates students in grades 3 through 5. We are also home to students
from the Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative and the Willie Ross
School for the Deaf. We build on the strong cognitive
foundations established at Meadow
Brook School
by promoting high academic achievement, strong emotional stability and
successful social development for all students. We foster a safe and nurturing
educational environment, encouraging positive interaction and collaboration within
the school community. We recognize the right of individuals to grow, to develop
a sense of responsibility, and to interact creatively with the world as they
journey on to meet the challenges of Birchland
Park Middle
School.
Our Mountain View P.T.O.
and the East Longmeadow Educational Endowment continue to support our staff and
students in all areas of curriculum delivery. Through their continued provision of
whole school enrichment programs, field trips, and technological equipment, our
students are prepared to meet the challenges of the new millennium across many
domains.
The Mountain View Library
has seen a renaissance in both form and function. As one of the beneficiaries of the East
Longmeadow Public Library’s new facility, we have acquired some of their
former bookshelves, tables and chairs that complement our current
furnishings. We are proud that all
of our material is now fully automated and accessible on-line. The updated feel of the library has
enhanced student interest in its contents.
The main focus of our
school improvement plan this year has been to foster enthusiasm for challenges
in mathematics. In conjunction with
our P.T.O., we have added a “Family Math Night” to our spring curriculum
at which time both children and parents find that working together on math
problems is fun and rewarding. In
addition, our weekly classroom enrichment instruction has focused on
mathematical concepts such as critical and logical thinking skills, analytical
reasoning, and problem solving.
Basic math skill web sites have been posted to the Mt. View
web site to provide students the opportunity to routinely practice math facts
in the computer lab or at home.
Due to the dedication
of our staff and their delivery of the material contained in the curriculum frameworks,
we continue to have a strong showing in all areas of the MCAS. Parental support also plays a critical
role in the continued success of this state assessment. The collaborative relationship between
staff, families and community provide the vital link to academic competency and
social well being for all students attending Mountain View School.
