Bulk Trash Regulations
The East Longmeadow Board of Health recognizes the need for residents to dispose of bulk trash items on occasion. While the Town used to provide this service for free through state grant money, unfortunately those grants have been eliminated and we can no longer provide this as a free service to our residents.
However, the residents of the Town have several options available to them to dispose of bulk items. First, residents have the ability to bring trash items to the Knowlton Transfer Station on Somers Road (please see Knowlton Transfer Station Rules & Regulations). There is a nominal fee to dispose of items at the transfer station. Second, you can request a curbside bulk trash pick up at your house by Waste Management.
To process a request for a curbside bulk pickup at your home, you should call Waste Management Customer Service at 800-545-4560 to schedule a pick-up date. You will inform the Customer Service Representative of the items to be picked up and they will notify you of the cost to remove those items (see attached price list for your convenience) and the date when the pickup can be done. Please note: There is a minimum $50 charge for individual pickups (waived for seniors 65 and over) and all requests must be prepaid at the time the appointment is made. Items will need to be placed by the curb by 7:00 a.m. of the day of the pickup and an additional charge may be instituted if you miss your appointment and a new appointment needs to be made.
You should also be aware that the Town no longer offers free removal of computer monitors or televisions at the Goodwill Industries on Dorset Street. Residents can still bring these items to Goodwill Industries for disposal; however, Goodwill Industries does assess a charge for the disposal of the item depending upon the size of the item.
