MEADOW BROOK SCHOOL

TOWN REPORT

2004

Meadow Brook School has 638 students enrolled in grades Preschool through Grade two.  Class sizes continue to grow in grade one. Average class size this year in grade one is 25 students per class.  Our grade two enrollment this year is 206 students with an average class size of 23 students among nine classrooms. Demand for full-day, tuition based kindergarten classes continues to grow as well.  We are very pleased to have four full-day classes this year, an increase of one from 2004-2005.  We also still offer half-day sessions, both AM and PM. Our PreK and Kindergarten teachers completed a self-study in order to complete requirements for NAEYC accreditation. NAEYC is the National Association for the Education of Young Children. This national organization supports high quality early childhood programs that support the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of young children. The self-study was completed and submitted in February.  The site visit by NAEYC validators will take place next year.

Meadow Brook School provides an excellent, child-centered, learning environment through the efforts of a highly qualified, dedicated staff and supportive families. Several new staff members were hired. Ms Sharon Bernard was hired to teach grade two and Ms Meghan Anderson was hired to teach preschool. Ms Anderson replaced Ms Leanne Morrissey who transferred to a position in kindergarten. Marta Pedersen, our school counselor resigned and was replaced by Trey Cushman. Meadow Brook also welcomed our Assistant Principal, Robert Orlando. Several paraprofessionals also joined our staff this year; Patty Holman, Casey Norris, Mary Steidler, Christine Auerswald, and Paula Garvey. These are not newly funded positions.  Our new hires are replacing staff retirements or resignations.

Parent involvement is an integral component of every school and the key to a successful learning community. We are very proud of the many parents who volunteer in our classrooms and who participate in all school activities.  The PTO actively supports teaching and learning in a variety of ways. They provide money for teacher supplies, pay for student field trips, serve on a variety of committees, and plan many school wide enrichment activities. We cherish their partnership and participation.

We are very proud of the combined efforts of parents, teachers, and community. The success of Meadow Brook is a team effort, and together, we look forward to another exciting year of learning.
