To the Honorable Board of Selectmen

Report of the Public Safety Advisory Committee

The charge of this committee is to make short and long term recommendations concerning Police,Fire and E.M.S (Emergency Medical Service) to the Selectmen.

The committee was formed this summer after the selectmen received numerous inquiries from residents regarding the lack of a fulltime fire department. Interested residents were asked to apply following articles in the local newspaper and an announcement on the scroll of the town cable T.V  channel, E.L.C.A.T. Selectmen conducted interviews, appointed members and held an organizational meeting in September.

The focus of the committee was also expanded to include police and ambulance service.

The committee met monthly in open session for the remainder of the year and will continue that schedule into 2006. We meet with the chiefs and other staff of both departments in order to learn as much about their operations as possible. We plan on doing a survey of residents to determine their level of satisfaction and assist us with long term recommendations.
