To the Board of
Selectman
The year 2006 was very busy for our Historical Commission
Merle Safford, one of our longtime and productive members,
resigned. Linda Kern was appointed to take her place.
We had a spring and fall open house at the Senior Center.
Al and Betsy McKee were our April 27th speakers. They spoke about
“The Unique Style of Herman Newell” a gravestone cutter who lived in
Longmeadow, Ma. in the late 1700’s till 1830. Our fall program featured
Frances Gagnon, who spoke about “History, Landmarks, Luminaries and Lore from
the Springfield, Ma. area. Programs were very well attended.
Our Commission had a booth at the 4th of July
Carnival, for the second year.
A new roof was installed at the Historical Commission, 87
Maple Street.
The museum is open on the third, Saturday of each month. It
is also open by appointment for special tours.
We also offer guided Quarry Tours to anyone interested.
Our beautiful room at the Library continues to be organized
and cataloged. Linda Kern has a high school senior work on copying newspaper
articles onto acid free paper, as part of a community service project.
Bill Speight has been appointed as a member of the Community
Preservation Committee.
We look forward to serving the town in 2007 and beyond.
Members of the commission are Bruce Moore Chairman, Tony
Zampiceni, Vice Chairman, Eleanor Seligman Secretary, Jim Davis Treasurer, Bill
