To The Board of Health:
To report a dog problem or ask any questions, the Dog
Officer can be reached by calling the East Longmeadow Police Department at
(413) 525-5440.
For the year 2006 approximately 100 dogs were picked-up, with
Porter Road Pet Care housing many. Most of the dogs went back to their original
owners, while others were placed in dog rescues. Unfortunately, one dog was
euthanized due to aggression. There were 25 Quarantines in 2006, none of
which contained Rabies Disease.
Martylee Caramante resigned as the full-time Dog Officer in
November after providing two years of outstanding service. I am currently the
Alternate Dog Officer working four days out of the week, until a full- time Dog
Officer is appointed. During the days I work I receive many reports of barking
complaints, leash law violations, and lost dog calls.
I wish to thank MartyLee Caramante for training me and helping
me when I need assistance. Porter Road Pet Care deserves thanks, too, for all the
help they give to the Dog Officer; especially with assistance in placing an
unclaimed dog. Thank You to the Board of Selectmen, the employees of both the
Selectmen’s Office and the Town Clerk’s Office, who are influential in helping
me do my job as Alternate Dog Officer. Finally, I want to thank the Police
Department and in particular the Police Officers who take the calls for me and
assist me at all hours when needed.
Sincerely,
Jessica O’Brien
Alternate Dog Officer
