MEADOW BROOK
SCHOOL
TOWN REPORT
Meadow Brook School has 639 students enrolled in grades
Preschool through Grade two. Class sizes remain consistent with enrollment in
grade one continuing to increase as families move to East Longmeadow. Grade one
enrollment continues to grow with average class size at 25 students. Class
size in grade two is 23 students. An additional grade one teacher will be
hired for the next school year so that class size in grade one will be reduced.
This additional position was approved as part of the town budget process. Our
full day tuition based kindergarten remains consistent with four full-day
classes. We also offer a half-day program, with three AM sessions and two PM
sessions.
The staff at Meadow Brook provides a stimulating and
nurturing, child-centered learning environment that offers students an
excellent start to their educational experience. Teachers support the curriculum
frameworks through a variety of strategies and activities that are appropriate
for young children. The 100th Day of School is an example of one
such activity as teachers plan interdisciplinary lessons and activities based
on 100. One of the community service projects at Meadow brook is Pennies for
Patients, a fundraiser for childhood leukemia. Meadow Brook was honored at a
ceremony in Cambridge as one of the top fundraisers (almost $4,000).
Four members of the Meadow Brook staff retired this year;
Harriet Fingeroth, guidance counselor, Diedra Paczkowski, grade one teacher,
Rebecca Lekberg, speech and language pathologist, and Nancy Sullivan,
kindergarten teacher. These outstanding educators enriched students with their
dedication, commitment, and knowledge. They will be missed by all.
An integral component of the classroom experience at Meadow
Brook is our parent volunteers. Parents are in classrooms on a daily basis as they
assist teachers with special projects and activities. Parents also participate
in the Meadow Brook PTO. This group of parents plans many activities throughout
the year such as Family Pizza Night, Book Fair, Enrichment Programs for
students, Family Picnic, and Staff Appreciation Lunch. They also provide money
for teacher supplies and pay for all student field tips. We appreciate parent
support and the countless hours of work they do for Meadow Brook School.
Meadow Brook takes great pride in its tradition of being a
family-oriented, child-centered school. We work closely with parents to provide
a caring environment where children can succeed, reach their potential, and be
happy young people.
